New Intellect/Time & Chaos |
Hello again from Chaos Software Group! Last time, we told you about the new over-the-air sync options for users of our ChaosHost.com data hosting service. This time, we are writing about the new release of our Intellect 3.0.3.8 and Time & Chaos 7.0.3.8.
In this version of our software, you'll find (if you look closely) a new option on the Backup screen to "keep older backup files". This option will archive the older backup files by renaming them with the addition of a number to the file name. For example, your most recent appt.bak file would be renamed to appt(1).bak when the next backup took place. Over time, you'll have these numbered files going back in time just in case you need them. These backup files are also small in size, so they won't take up too much space, generally speaking.
In addition to keeping these older backups instead of replacing them, we have also added a new option under the File Menu for an Advanced Data Backup Explorer.
The Advanced Data Backup Explorer has two main objectives. First, it provides a way to preview what is in a backup file without having to restore it first. You can look at the data in a backup file to make sure it is what you want before you restore it. Second, it also offers the ability to SELECTIVELY restore just certain records rather than having to take the entire backup as a complete set! Very nice when you have deleted a name from your contacts and then decided you made a big mistake. Instead of restoring a complete backup and losing all your work since the backup was made, this Advanced Data Backup Explorer would let you look through the backup for the one person you needed and restore just that one name to the database you are currently using!
For the people that require IMAP support in Intellect, there are two types of users: One set of users just want it to work like POP accounts work, where it should just download the incoming messages and let you do all the work with it locally to take full advantage of Intellect's features. Simply stated, these users treat IMAP as POP.
A second group of users are working more collaboratively and have reasons they need to keep the mail on the server and work with the folders on the IMAP server rather than bringing the mail to their PC. We have made some improvements in Intellect 3.0.3.8 that specifically apply to this second group of IMAP users.
First, we have made some dramatic improvements in speed and performance to load the messages in your server IMAP folders. Second, you can now drag and drop a message from one IMAP Server Header folder to another to organize your mail on the server.
That's all for this edition of our news! Thanks for your loyalty!
Best regards,
The Team at Chaos Software Group, Inc./p>
