Over-The-Air Sync for WM

Hello again from Chaos Software Group! We have a very exciting development for Windows Mobile device owners. Just as we previously announced for iPhone and iPod Touch users, we now offer Windows Mobile users a new way to get your data from our programs to your device!

Over-The-Air Mobile Sync with ChaosHost.com

As a refresher, we offer an optional add-on service to our users called Chaos Data Hosting. Getting an account on our ChaosHost.com server allows us to host a working copy of your Contacts, Appointment Calendar, Tasks and Memos databases that you can then use anywhere. This data on ChaosHost.com can be synchronized with Chaos products using an option you will find is already built-in, on the File Menu, under Web Synchronization.

We have added a new feature to benefit our ChaosHost.com users that can synchronize the data we host with mobile devices over-the-air through the Internet!  We are very excited about this feature because it means you can....

Get Contacts, Appointments and Tasks on your Windows Mobile without even connecting to a PC!

Just as our Chaos Intellect and Time & Chaos products have a way to sync with ChaosHost.com, Windows Mobile devices also have a built-in way to sync with ChaosHost. The ActiveSync software that comes preinstalled on your device has an option to sync with a Server Source. ChaosHost can now be configured as a server source and will send the data you have stored on ChaosHost directly to your device through the Internet. You won't have to connect your device to a computer at all to get this data!

Your Windows Mobile device can also keep synchronizing over the air so changes you make while mobile will get copied back to ChaosHost.com. When you return back to your computer where Intellect or Time & Chaos is installed, you can do a Web Synchronization to pull those changes down to our software on your PC, too!

If you have a ChaosHost account, check out the full details on using and configuring this option in the ChaosHost help files. If you don't have an account yet, look below for details on getting a free trial account started.

What about other ways to sync with Windows Mobile?

Before our ChaosHost could do Over-The-Air transfers, the only options available were to use either our ChaosSync for Outlook to copy our data from Chaos to Outlook to your Windows Mobile device, or to use software from a company called CompanionLink, which could sync from Chaos straight to your device without needing Outlook on your computer.  Both of these options still work just as they have, and can be a great alternative if you are looking for a one-time purchase.

The advantage of ChaosHost is being able to sync all the time, even as you are away from your PC. You don't have to wait until you return back and plug-in to your computer to send and receive updated information.

Have a different smartphone?

We are currently in open beta testing for Over-The-Air synchronization with BlackBerry devices and Nokia E and N series phones.

BlackBerry owners do require an additional program from another company to add the sync feature to the BlackBerry device, but testers have had positive feedback regarding how well the sync works.

If you do have any of these smartphones and would like to give over-the-air synchronization with ChaosHost a try, please take a look in the ChaosFanatics ChaosHost.com forum at http://www.chaosfanatics.com/ for details.  Setup instructions can also be found in our ChaosHost Help.
