Custom Clipboard is perhaps one of the most powerful features in our program, but it is also a feature that is almost unknown. We are glad you're here on this help page to learn about it so you can spread the news about how useful this feature can be.
In a nutshell, it's like a mail merge operation in a word processor or in Intellect email templates. You combine any combination of your literal words and data fields in Design Format to create a template for how the information will appear. When you use Custom Clipboard, then Copy, the information is merged and placed on the windows clipboard ready for pasting into an email, a note, Microsoft Word, Notepad, or any other application.
To start, Right Click on any record in a grid view (like the lists on our Classic page) and look for Custom Clipboard on the pop up menu. You'll find choices for Design Format and Copy.
Click on Design Format and you'll find the template for how your information will appear. You can combine literal text that you type with any field data you wish to include. This feature works with Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Projects data, so depending on which type of record you have selected, the fields you have to pick from on the left side will match your data type. If you double-click on a field name on the left side, it will insert it at the cursor point on the right side.
Once you think you have the Design Format the way you want it, you can save it, then right click again on the record and choose Custom Clipboard, then Copy. Now go to the place you want this text to end up and paste. You'll find that all of the field codes have been replaced with actual data from the record. If the result isn't quite what you expected, you can always go back to Design Format and perfect the template you designed.
This operation supports multi-select so if you have more that one item highlighted, the custom clipboard will contains your custom information from each of the highlighted records when you do the copy operation.
