Chaos Intellect has a full and powerful contact manager available to leverage when you are selecting recipients for a new mail message.
As with most email programs, you can start a new message right from the top of the mail screen with the New button.
The To or CC or BCC fields on a new message screen can search as you type based on Name or Primary email address. As you type a letter, the program searches for any Name that starts with that letter or primary email address that letter. You can keep typing to be more and more specific and when you see the name or email address you want to include, you can click it to insert it. You can type again to add other recipients as well.
(Just to mention it, the Name is based on the Name Style you select in the program Options for Contacts. You can style your contact list to have Name start with Last name, First name, or Company name.)
What if you want to send to a different email address other than the primary one or want to send to more than one person? In both cases, the full Contact list is where the data is available and ready to be used.
This applies to either the Classic view which has a Contact section or the Contact view which has contacts only on the display.
When you select a contact on the list, their address and phone number fields, including mailto: email address fields will appear on the right side of the screen.
Once you have a person selected, you can
What if you want to send to multiple contacts at a time rather than selecting addresses individually?
If you highlight multiple contacts on the contact list, you can go to the New button at the top of the Contacts section and use the little drop down arrow on the right side to bring up a menu of choices. If you select E-mail Message from that drop down menu, it will put the primary email address for all selected contacts in the To: field of a new message. (Don't forget to use the New button in the Contact section, not the new button in other sections, as the Contact section is what will be aware of which contacts are selected.)
If you want to reduce the list of contacts to a more relevant list perhaps, you can use the Group and Category filtering on the Contacts toolbar to find the exact group or category you are interested in emailing. Highlight those names and use the New, E-mail Message button as described above.
Chaos Intellect does have a feature called Distribution Lists which can be used to save a list of semicolon separated email addresses that don't even need to be related to contacts you have saved and manage in the Contact list. Distribution lists have their own separate help page you can click here to view.
Here is a video from our Chaos University video series that shows how this feature works.
